This Month In Beauty
News of launches are commonplace in the beauty industry, the biggest news this month however comes from tech – Youtube has released an AR which lets the viewer virtually try on the products being reviewed in review videos! Let’s admit it, that’s a major game changer! On the youtube application, the video opens as a split screen the first half displaying the review video and the second half displaying the face of the viewer with swatches, which when clicked on shows how the swatch will look on you. For instance, the lipstick swatches get morphed onto your lips to show what the colour will look like when tried on for real. Of course, there are some discrepancies given that it’s AR based but overall the outcome is pretty close to the real deal.
In other news, Tyra Banks is paving the way for body positivity through her docuseries ‘Beauty’ set to launch in the year 2020. According to a press release, it states that ‘Beauty’ will attempt to break down barriers and challenge the traditional notions of beauty.
Lululemon enters the beauty market by launching a gender-neutral skincare range. These days the line between wellness both inner and external is getting smaller as we speak. This is proved by the fact that a beloved activewear brand has entered the beauty realm. They are launching products that one can use during a workout session, irrespective of one’s gender. This is what the future may look like for the activewear industry. Lululemon and brands like SportFX are setting the way!
Speaking of models, another model making waves in the beauty industry is Miranda Kerr as she makes her brand Kora Organics, which she launched in 2009 a shining example for clean beauty. Organic, wholesome, homemade skincare remedies have been a part of Kerr’s upbringing. However, she noticed that the same did not exist in the industry. The labels were misleading with ‘natural’ thrown around casually. When she first launched the brand it was only available in Australia, and later became available in retail stores globally. Miranda Kerr has been at the forefront of the clean beauty movement. Her brand meets the stringent standards set by COSMOS and does not contain any harmful chemicals.
The clean beauty movement is gaining precedence in the last few years and that’s a step in the right direction. Websites such as Follianand Credo Beauty are two websites dedicated to making clean beauty mainstream. Speaking of clean beauty, here are the top clean beauty products that are on top of our shopping list.
One Ocean Beauty
The brand One Ocean Beauty is best known for its bioactive body sculpting marine cream. This formula has been proven to improve muscle firmness, and the appearance by tightening the skin. This effective formula is free from chemicals, which makes your investment worthwhile.
YTTP
We recommend YTTP’s Kale + Green Tea Spinach Vitamin Cleanser, it is all the superfood your skin will need. It contains cold pressed antioxidants which gently cleanse your pores while maintaining the skin’s PH balance. What’s more? This product is vegan and cruelty-free!
Josh Rosebrook
Josh Rosebrook’s Hydrating Accelerator is the skin saviour you’ll need this summer. Facial mists are a great way to refresh your skin and provide it with much needed hydration. This formulation is enriched with vitamins infused in aloe water which plumps, firms and soften the skin and aids the function of masks, serums and creams used otherwise. This one is a keeper.
John Masters Organics
Any hairdressing salon worth their salt will tell you the wonders clean beauty products can do for your hair. While the clean beauty industry is leaps ahead in the skincare game, when it comes to haircare it is still at the newbie stage. That said, there are some products that are paving the way for clean hair care, and John Masters Organics is one such brand. Their honey and hibiscus range is all the care your dry and damaged hair will need.
Moving on to some of the highly anticipated launches that we can look forward to:
Dr Sam’s Flawless Nightly Serum; this line from Dr Sam Bunting is her entryway into night time skin care. The product is aimed at making use of actives such as retinol easy. The serum boosts the texture of the skin giving it a natural glow.
Fenty Beauty Vivid Liquid Eyeliner Trio embodies the spirit of Rihanna. These eyeliners are bold, bright and meant to make a statement. The colours are vivid and right on point with the whole neon makeup trend. The applicator is easy to work with and the product is favourably priced! This one ranks high on our ‘want-list’.
KKW Beauty Skin Perfecting Body Foundation: if someone was to come up with the perfect foundation, that someone would be Kim Kardashian. The woman eats, breathes and sleeps contour and coverage; her skin perfecting body foundation is a testament to that. It covers imperfections, enhances skin tone and provides a smooth flawless finish. This one should be your go-to beauty product!
Nyx Bare With Me Cheek Tint is the perfect product for the summer. It has a gel texture and is packed with aloe and cucumber extracts for that cooling effect. It’s pretty easy to use and does not look overdone in the sunlight. It gives you a nice hint of colour which looks like a natural flush. Give is one a whirl this summer.
Aesop Protective Facial Lotion is your one-stop sun protection solution. Exposure to the sun causes havoc on your skin and should not be taken lightly. By now we all know the ‘use-sunscreen-even-when-cloudy’ advice spewed by every beauty publication, influencer and dermatologists there were. This lightweight lotion does the job for you. It’s the perfect sunscreen which does not leave a sticky or pasty residue!
That wraps up this month’s biggest beauty trends, clean beauty products and upcoming exciting launches.
