This Month In Beauty
For those who follow the hashtag #instabeauty, #makeupoftheday and other related hashtags you’ll likely see a stream of beauty trends flooding your news feed. With trends changing literally every second, it becomes difficult to sort trendy from the trash. Let’s face it, not everything you see on the internet is worth trying. We all remember how the fiasco ‘Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge’ racked up. So, we’ve done the job of distinguishing the daring from the dangerous, the beautiful from the bizarre – here’s our list of beauty trends and products to try this month.
HAIR ART
In 2018, hair genius Roxie Jane Hunt gave us the famous rainbow hair and it sent all the fashionistas in a frenzy. What’s not to love about the prism highlights? As if, that was not enough. This year Roxie has outdone herself and upgraded stripped shaded hair into pieces of art. Her eye design is simply brilliant and so unique. It’s also universal in its appeal as the eye is symbolic in many cultures.
The hairstylist is also an expert in optical illusions. The final outcome is awe-inspiring, following the suit we have seen many influencers dabbling with this trend. Here’s another masterpiece that involves playing with shadows and different colour panels to create a feather-like effect on the mane. One does not necessarily need to play with unnatural colour to get the desired effect. Women’s hair salons use different layers of monotone hair to create stunning designs as well.
LIP ART
Many millennials are approaching make-up as a means to unleash their creativity rather than means to cover up one’s flaws or to enhance one’s natural features. More and more influencers are treating their face as a canvas, and are creating stunning works of arts. @kelseylipsz and @bananakeup are some of the accounts dedicated to lip art on Instagram.
BRAIDS
Coachella or no Coachella, braids have always been ‘IN’. In 2019 they have reached a new level of glam. Here’s what is on the radar for this year. Multi-coloured pastel braids are the buzz, as seen on the model Chanel Iman. Glitter braids are the rage at festivals and raves. Braids are being done in all forms as well. Halo braids look sophisticated and laidback at the same time. Tri-braids, as seen on January Jones, is another fun way to don them. Fishtail, Cornrows are bustling all over the scene. Waterfall braids are celebrity favourites too!
SKIN & HAIR FOOD
Be it Harvey & Coco’s complexion rehab or Sugar Bear Hair’s Gummies, beauty supplements are gaining popularity. Symprove Daily supplement is aimed at delivering healthy bacteria which aids digestion which in turns results in better skin. UK’s Hair Burst range of supplements is a favourite amongst insta-influencers. ‘Beauty begins in the belly’ is The Beauty Chef’s coveted mantra. Their product range is aimed at supplementing you with the right nutritional mix to provide an inner glow which cosmetics simply cannot compete with.
SHINY EYES
When it comes to eye-makeup, metallics are gaining a following. Vibrant hues on the lids imbibe the spring vibe. A popular way to wear it is by donning a lighter hue at the corner of the eyes and a complemented darker hue for the rest of the lid. Blues, pinks, yellows and greens seem to be the crowd favourites.
XL LASHES
‘Louder the better’ seems to be the mantra when it comes to eyelashes. Instagram is busting with photographs of fashionista’s sporting extra long eyelashes. Eyelash extensions are the new fad – just think of it as hair extensions for your lashes. It’s is a pricey, time-consuming process and hence it’s better to weigh the pros and cons before making a commitment and make an informed decision.
YOGA SKIN
Healthy skin was never really out but this year seems to have taken the trend one step ahead. Just as the name suggests it is all about the flushed post-workout glow when the blood rushes to your face. This look is achieved by combining foundation, face oil and highlighter to attain this natural-looking vibe.
COLOUR CHANGING LIPSTICKS
2019 is all about finding something unique to call yours. And almost as an answer, PH lipsticks have been introduced in the beauty market. These lipsticks change colours based on your natural body temperature to give you a unique shade that compliments your natural skin tone. In fact, the trend is so popular that big players such as Givenchy have launched colour changing lip gloss and their black colour changing lipstick.
BARE LIP
The 1990s saw a lot of women wearing brown lip liner sometimes on its own, this trend has been resurrected in the year 2019. Major fashionista’s such as Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner have been seen sporting this look to name a few. However, what the 90s got wrong has been corrected for its recent revival. The browns have a warmer undertone so that they don’t look too stark and merge well with your natural lip colour.
HAIR CLIPS
From runway to the streets, hair clips are making a comeback, one more thing that we’ve adopted from the 90s. Neatly parted hair held in place by shiny pins is a simple yet stunning hairdo that works for any hair type – straight, curly or wavy. The hairdo looks elegant and requires almost no effort at all. When it comes to hairpins choices are aplenty, you can go for the dainty bobby pins or for bold encrusted crystal pieces. Bows are another favourite and were seen all over the runway this season.
These are some of the trends that are seen on the beauty scene this month. Trends fluctuate, and what is in one second can be done and dusted the next, but that should not stop you from having a little fun. We hope this guide has been helpful in sorting out some trends for you to try on this summer.
