How To Make That Natural Glow From Summer Last

You’ve probably worked hard on getting that beautiful natural suntan and now you need to do your best to make it last. The temptation for many of us will be to visit a skin clinic to gain advice on how we can get the best from our skin. The same can be said for our teeth, having natural-looking false teeth for some of us is very important and should not be overlooked. 

If you want to try and make your natural glow from the summer last yourself, then follow the below steps to ensure that you can.

Moisturising

Before you even head out into the sunshine you need to make sure that you use a protecting facial moisturizer at least once a day. Once you come back indoors from the sunshine, then use a moisturiser which will help to keep your skin hydrated. 

Wear white

This may sound a bit obvious but if you wear light shades of clothes, particularly white,  your skin will look more tanned. Consider wearing a white shirt or a dress with an accessory which is bright in colour as this will definitely help your tan to stand out. 

Keep hydrated

If you want to make that natural glow from your summer last then you need to ensure that you are hydrated and your skin is rich with moisture. The sun can dry out the skin which means the top layer of your skin is prone to flaking once you are out of the sun. Whenever you are outdoors, always make sure you have a bottle of water with you so that you can sip this as you relax. In general, you need to drink around six to eight glasses of water, so if you are out spending time in the sun, you will probably need to drink a couple of extra glasses on top of this. 

SPF creams

It may sound strange to suggest using a sunscreen that’s got a high factor when you are trying to get a tan, but it will not prevent you from getting that beautiful golden time. SPF creams protect you from harmful UVA and UVB rays and they also will help keep your skin hydrated which means you are less likely to peel. 

Consider using a blemish balm (BB) or colour correcting (CC) cream as these give a nice glow to the skin and are a great alternative to foundation. These creams don’t feel as heavy as foundation and are therefore perfect for those warmer days. As these creams have less pigment,  your natural glow will be visible through the cream. Ideally, these creams should be used alongside sun protection.

Holidays

Try and get away on holiday as often as you can as the more your skin is exposed to the sun,  the more melanin your body will produce. It is melanin that controls the colour of our hair and our eyes as well as the colour of our skin. Therefore, the more we produce the more our skin will tan. 

Diet

In order for your skin to be well-nourished on the inside as well as the outside, you need to make sure you eat plenty of healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables which contain plenty of beta-carotene. Beta-carotene can actually help to make your natural glow last longer as it encourages your body to produce melanin. Fruits and vegetables such as cantaloupe, melons,  spinach, sweet potatoes, carrots, mango, peppers and papaya are all high in beta-carotene. 

Exfoliation 

A good tip before you decide to head out into the sun to get your tan is to make sure that you use an exfoliating scrub all over your body.  Exfoliation helps to remove dead cells which are on the surface of your skin. This then means your tan will look smoother and should, therefore, last longer.

Body oils

The celebs have a sneaky trick that they use and this is body oil. If you use body oil on your legs and your arms,  you will be amazed at how smooth and sleek they look and it will also help to retain your tan. Try and find a body oil which is natural and doesn’t contain any silicone.  These oils will help to look after your skin as well as nourish it.

Bathing and showering

Although there’s nothing quite like a hot shower or a hot bath, the temperature of the hot water can actually dehydrate the skin. This is because water that is warm can strip away at the body’s natural oils. When bathing or showering, make sure the water is lukewarm and use and body wash that is moisturising as this will help to keep your skin feeling soft and hydrated.  Additionally, skin that is wet absorbs moisture better than dry skin, therefore apply moisturiser or body butter straight after your bath or shower.

Fake tan

Another way of making your natural colour last that won’t harm your skin is to use a fake tan. If you can’t sit out in the sun for an endless amount of time, then the fake tan option would be perfect for you. When applying fake tan use a mitt so that you don’t stain your knuckles and palms. Apply the tan in sweeping motions. Fake tans are a great way of topping up your tan and are easy to keep up with. Also, it means you don’t need to head to your beauty and hair salon to keep on top of your tan. It is best to apply your fake tan once you’ve had a shower in the morning. Ideally, you’d want to apply fake tan every other day so that you look as natural as possible.
